At last years Prague cannafest I got a pair of Method Seven grow room glasses. The difference they make when you are under harsh hps grow lights is amazing. For the last six months my eyes have been given a rest from harmful UV A/B and UVC rays. If you wear sunglasses in a grow room they will protect you from the A and B rays but can leave you exposed to cataract inducing UVC rays. You get to see your babies grow in clear colors. Praguepot recommends this new technology. Being a half blind great grower is not a health trade-off needed to hone your skills. If you spend an extended amount of time under hps bulbs then do your older self a favor and get a pair !!

Feeding done, excess runoff removed from trays and all is right with the world. Time to sit back and take in the beauty of the green canopy you have created. Temps look good, leaves are healthy, now all that is required is patience and vigilance. Unlike the California hippies from the 60s we have an unbelievable amount of knowledge at our fingertips.
Youtube video tutorials and chat forums all guide us as we pursue the perfect bud. Trial and error growing has been replaced by clear advice and insight handed down through the generations and finally placed on the internet.
So what could possibly go wrong, right?
Indoor growing requires strong lights. These metal halide and high pressure sodium lights have done wonders for yield and quality, but they are doing slow, permanent damage to our eyes. I have always felt a strain on my eyes when in a grow room but I guess you are distracted by much more important things. After meeting with the Method Seven guys at the recent cannabis fair in Prague I became aware of the problem and also the solution.
There is quite a bit of science involved in all this so buckle up!
Daylight has UVA and UVB radiation in it from the sun. A good pair of sunglasses will filter out this radiation and protect your eyes, but there is a third form of radiation called UVC. The ozone layer very helpfully filters out this radiation outdoors so sun glasses manufacturers do not concern themselves with this filter. In the grow room however those magical MH and HPS bulbs crank out UVC radiation. Good for plants, bad for eyes. Now for the really frightening bit, prolonged exposure to these grow lights can lead to permanent loss of color perception, it can mess up your night vision and give you cataracts.
I got a pair of Method Seven glasses over the weekend. In a few months time I will do another post on how they are working for me, but initially I can feel they take the strain away and let you look at your plants with much better color perception. Marijuana has many health benefits, if you grow it you are helping others but you also need to protect yourself from the harsh working environment. Go on the internet and get as much information as you need and then get the protection. The glasses work and are just as important as all the other vital pieces of equipment in your grow room.
At 11am a large crowd of excited pot enthusiasts made their way through the annual Prague cannafest main doors. Pretty girls in skimpy outfits greeted us with smiles and bags of goodies. The three day event saw huge crowds and unlike last year, there was no police presence whatsoever.
On display was the latest growing technology. Lighting, ventilation, nutrients, everything a dedicated grower could ever wish for. Besides the old reliable seed bank companies, an army of new ones have sprung up. There were impressive deals from Dinafem. I got some and In about three months time I will let you know if that was a good purchase or not!
Of all the new products that I saw, one stood out. A couple of American guys were showcasing glasses that protect your eyes from indoor light radiation. After an interesting five minute chat I went along my way. That night, sitting between two 600 watt HPS lights I began to replay the conversation I had with the Method Seven guys. You don’t look directly at the sun, and yet if you grow, there are lights trying to mimic the sun’s rays a couple of meters from your eyeballs. Oxygen filled room good, eyes being slowly destroyed by grow lights, not so good. After a quick search online it looks like grow light eye damage is a real thing. The first stall I visited the next day was the glasses guys. They had a 600 watt HPS light set up in their display area. Without the glasses, the old familiar strain on your eyes is there but with the glasses on, your eyes can relax. I got a pair and will wear them every time I am in a grow room. In later posts we will look deeper into grower eye damage.
The east hall was packed with activist groups, stages, demonstrations and even a cinema. Speeches from scientists and dreamers incited the crowd. Medical marijuana is a fact. Hemp can replace plastic and be used for food, fuel, clothing and construction materials. When the general public becomes aware of the usefulness of cannabis the debate on its legal status will be over. You can feel the optimism. Government propaganda and special interest misinformation is discredited and being replaced by marijuana jobs and innovation. Cannabis social clubs for the Europeans and legislation for America. We are heading for legalization, for a brighter, greener more eco responsible tomorrow. The activist, enthusiast and entrepreneur shared the same cannafest roof. Each have their role to play as we push to end prohibition.
