Remember all the good cannabis news reports that popped up in 2015? Cannabis was on the march it seemed. Unfortunately someone forgot to tell the Spanish supreme court judges that their own Madrid University is leading the research in exactly how beneficial the plant is for human health. The Judges have gone all fascist Franco on us and now said that specifically three cannabis social clubs have broken some sacred man made law. The cannabis associations, Ebers, Pannagh (Bilbao) and Three Monkeys (Barcelona) have all been hammered by the supreme court. Jail terms and 250,000 euro fines have been handed out for growing a plant that is healthy for you. I am sorry that the judges’ idea of a good time is different from our cannabis good time, but who do they think they are? God? When laws try to restrict natural human behavior, it is the system of law that suffers eventually. We need to increase civil disobedience until the corrupt system of government understands we are not backing down on cannabis. This isn’t the old days when the public had very little access to information. We know all about the benefits of cannabis. We also know that cannabis can lead the fight back against climate change. From plastics to food, fuel and medicine the plant is a natural gift to replace the polluting industries that are killing our planet.
Cannabis is a plant, when it is organically grown it is incredibly healthy for you. You can, in a non toxic way, treat a ridiculous number of serious illnesses and lets not forget, it can help prevent cancer. This is 2016, we have looked at the science and unfortunately for the pharmaceutical and alcohol industries, they have serious competition with cannabis. Sorry about that but with the explosion of cancer, you have a perfect right to grow cannabis. You don’t need permission from your government, you don’t need a license, fuck the authorities and grow it.
Our Spanish club friends need help. Please spread this and lets give a united European slap back to the Spanish authorities. Spanish law now says you can grow cannabis yourself. Cannabis social clubs help by growing your cannabis only for you and other adult members. No dealing to kids, only responsible, adult cooperation. These guys will need money for a legal fund. It isn’t just them in trouble. This is a European problem. We all have a stake in the outcome of this crooked conservative, stick your head in the sand approach to cannabis legalization. Encod are helping with this issue. If you want to get involved, send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or visit encod.org’s website. I will keep you posted about money raising ideas for the legal defense fund. This is our chance to cooperate together. Together we are strong. Together we can effect the change that is needed in our out dated system of governance. There are plenty of facebook accounts of Spanish politicians and also European Union representatives that you can bring up this issue on. If we want cannabis to be a normal part of a healthy, evolved society, then we must begin to challenge the authorities at every turn.
Richard Branson has once again proven invaluable to our cannabis movement. He is a member of the Global Commission on Drugs Policy and has aggressively sought the end of the war on drugs. Richard has released an internal UN document that has called for the ending of the war on drugs. He is a clever business person and by publishing this document, he puts pressure on the UN to actually act for the good of the public it is supposed to serve. The UN has reacted defensively but the game has changed. We are seeing the end of prohibition. We can be a species that relies on science to dictate policy rather than political special, cynical commercial interests. In reality, the drugs war has utterly failed. Cannabis is an anti-cancer fighting substance. You grow the plant, dry it and then consume it. It boosts your health system and helps develop compassionate communities. We have a serious cancer epidemic that is being ignored. Praguepot calls for anyone that can, to start growing cannabis for their own use and for those around you that need this medicine. When laws are unjust, when they deny health or suppress our individual freedoms , we do not need to follow those laws. In fact, we must actively resist these laws for the good of future generations.
It is time for our younger generation to wake up. No more bitching about how the system seems fucked up. It is up to us to resist the older generation’s misguided, ill-informed nonsense on cannabis. Grow cannabis, be happy and form compassionate communities when you meet like minded souls.
Bulgaria is the next European country to make headlines for cannabis. Member of parliament Velar Enchev Penkov will introduce legislation this month calling for the adoption of cannabis to treat illness in the country.
Velar is a former spy and all round independent thinker. He has launched an online petition to have the laws reformed in his country. In June he submitted a list of illnesses that can be treated by the plant to parliament. Specifically he referred to a case involving a MS sufferer being brought before a judge for growing cannabis. Marin Kalchev was later acquitted by a Bulgarian judge who cited international studies confirming the effectiveness of cannabis treatment. Sick people are suffering as our politicians debate legalization.
It looks like the winds of change are blowing across the whole of Europe. If you are in Bulgaria, please sign the petition here or get involved with the pan European activist group Encod.
Saturday the 8th of August will see German and European cannabis activists marching through Berlin. Today 464 seriously ill Germans have access to medical marijuana. The fact that so few have legal access to the health promoting plant is criminal. The German government are ignoring scientific research that is streaming out of America, Spain and Israel. Look at how slow governments are reacting to the new reality. They are happy to continue prohibition and let sick people needlessly stuff toxic medication into their bodies. Saturday’s Berlin march is our opportunity to unite in the streets.
The march organizers will talk about the history and future of the plant. If you are in Berlin on Saturday and you want to meet a fun, socially conscious bunch of people, then find the march details here. The planet needs more activists. Politicians said trust us, and then they sold us out to greedy capitalists. It is clear that cannabis is a health promoting plant. If enough people reject prohibition publicly, politicians will have to respect our collective wisdom.
Get involved, join an activist group, begin your own cannabis social club or even just go along to one of these European marches. Together we can build a safer, healthier tomorrow
The Italian region of Lombardy has voted to allow medical cannabis for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and other similar diseases. The council said treatment must be carried out in hospitals. This is an initiative lead by Roberto Maroni and backed by the majority of councillors. We are also awaiting the first legal cannabis crop that has been grown by the Italian army. Italians love cannabis and their politicians are beginning to show this in their legislation. To get involved in Italian cannabis activism, join Encod and help move the conversation forward.
We need to talk about Sweden. It has many fine points, but tolerance to cannabis is not one of them. Just ask Snoop Dogg, he was arrested there on Saturday night and forced to give a urine sample. He was in the country for a concert but after being pulled over and arrested, he has vowed never to return. The Swedes, we presume with the best of intentions have become the most conservative country in Europe when it comes to the herb. In spite of the positive science headlines on the plant, the Swedes haven’t altered their stance. Their next door neighbor Denmark has the highest rate of citizens who have tried cannabis in Europe and their society hasn’t shown any ill-effects.
Instead of having a sensible approach to cannabis, Sweden has shown itself to be very intolerant. Worse, when it comes to Snoop Dogg, it seems they racially profiled that G and pulled his car over. After providing a urine sample(which proved negative of any drugs), they let him go. In an emotional video, Snoop told the Swedish authorities to go fuck themselves.
It isn’t just Snoop that is effected by this zero tolerance to cannabis. Younger people who want to use cannabis can’t, but they can get their hands quite easily on synthetic cannabis. Spice as it is often called is lethally dangerous for your health. Have a look at some of the youtube videos of a bad spice trip. People go from happy to deranged in about six seconds. Spice is the price society pays for Swedish superiority. I am glad the Swedish government believe only it knows best, but if a Swedish person wants to smoke cannabis either for health or social reasons, then they have a perfect right to. Cannabis is much healthier for you than alcohol. It can grow brain cells and repair damage on a cellular level. The once mighty Swedes, are showing themselves up to be a little backward.
Snoop Dogg is an acquired taste, but the science on cannabis cannot be disputed. The plant has serious medicinal value. For that reason alone, Sweden needs to change its mind on the herb. Secondly, cannabis is a natural, healthy alternative to alcohol. The rest of Europe is slowly easing into the idea of legalization. Sweden needs to follow them for the safety of young smokers and the well being of sick and older people. We are at the point of no return, let’s finally let cannabis back into European society.
The Danish National Institute of Public Health has released its latest findings. School aged kids binge drink less alcohol but are replacing it with cannabis. Obviously in a perfect world, no school kids would bother with cannabis but in the real world, younger people have tried and will continue to try cannabis. It is certainly less damaging than booze, but too much of anything is going to create problems. Half of Danish school boys and a third of girls have smoked cannabis. A little over a third of all Danes have tried pot. That is a lot by European standards.
Prohibitionists will delight in this increased cannabis use. They will argue that cannabis is poisoning young, developing minds. There is a theory that early use of the plant can negatively impact your immune system. Alcohol is far more damaging however. It has been scientifically proven to lower IQs, promote aggressive, anti social behavior and is a leading cause of teen pregnancies.
Prohibitionists won’t tell you that kids have easy access to the plant because of prohibition. Drug dealers don’t have the same protection as pharmaceutical drug dealers. Not being regulated means illegal drugs easily find their way into schools. In Colorado, teens are less likely to use cannabis because there is more control on the supply side. If we want to deal with cannabis as adults, then regulate the production and supply of the herb.
