Irish finally wake up to CBD

They say that Ireland is the land of saints and scholars. If that is true, then the Irish Church of Cannabis (ICOC) is holding up that stereotype. We have previously covered the European Church of Cannabis and their fun fight to spread their ancient religion. In Ireland, the church has a dedicated community of cannabis people. Due to the strict legal environment, the Irish Church has been blocked from using their healing cannabis plant but they have been busy with the next best thing.

Cannabidiol or CBD is one of the main chemical components of both the legal hemp plant, and the absurdly illegal cannabis plant. CBD is an amazing health partner for our bodies. It doesn’t have a psychoactive effect like cannabis’ other major compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD has incredible anti psychotic effects. It brings down inflammation, fights pain (especially period pain for women) and for all the students out there, it heightens brain function with none of the memory loss associated with THC. It gives strong neuroprotection and is frequently used to stop the most severe forms of epilepsy while also boosting their immune system. In short, CBD is medical cannabis without the high.

Our saintly scholars in the Irish church know all this and have been bringing CBD to the people. They have created their own CBD vaporizer oil. If you live in Ireland and are in any way health conscious, then CBD should be a regular part of a healthy lifestyle. The Irish church needs your support to continue their work. Cannabis prohibition is ending. We will have a period of change before the inevitable, wholesale acceptance of the cannabis plant into a healthier tomorrow’s society.  You can contact these great people here :

Germany says yes to medical cannabis

From spring 2017, the German government will pay for sick people to access cannabis. Germany is the powerhouse of European politics. So a big JA JA JA from them is the  beginning of the end of the nonsense that was cannabis prohibition. Big money blocked the plant, and years of amazing activist work has helped bring pot back to the people.

Health Minister Hermann Groehe said; “Our aim is that seriously ill people are treated in the best possible way.” First the very sick, then the sick and then those who don’t want to get sick will be legally allowed cannabis. The German government will grow cannabis themselves at a secure location. They will join a growing number of European countries that  have a medical cannabis program.

Now it is your turn, do you support your local cannabis club? Are you a member of a patients association?  Cannabis is going main stream and there are a million uses for the plant. Together with hemp, they provide a natural alternative to our current toxic options. Germany’s yes on cannabis is vital, so is the support we show to activists trying to nail down the end of prohibition all over Europe.

UN ending cannabis war?

From the 19th to the 21st of this month, April, the UN meets in New York to renegotiate the legal terms of the international drug restrictions treaties. If you are to listen to the medical and scientific experts, drugs should be treated as a health issue and not a criminal one. Regulating the market for drugs is the sensible, adult action. Right now we have to choose, do we want drug dealers running drugs, or do we want governmental control over a hugely important social issue?

Ungass 2016 is a crucial event towards safe access to medical cannabis for those who benefit from the plant. Ungass can lift the international legal treaties that stop individual countries making their own mind up on cannabis. Cannabis is a safe, health promoting plant when used responsibly. Our government has no right to keep this plant from us. Help spread the word about this meeting :

Germany positive on medical cannabis

The German ministry of health just released a new draft(in German) of regulations for medical cannabis. Instead of pretending cannabis is a problem, the Germans are preposing cannabis be treated for what it is, an amazing new medical discovery. The draft regulations would place cannabis in the same category as other prescription medications.

Great news for patients but terrible news for powerful, money hungry pharmaceutical corporations. If the regulations are adopted, it will mean that any doctor in the country will be able to prescribe medical cannabis. Most importantly, the draft proposal also says that cannabis should be covered by your insurance company.

This is huge. Germany is a big European player. Their ministry of health cannot signal any clearer. They want a sensible, rational approach. No more arresting people for making a health conscious choice. We have plenty of things to deal with in society, but responsible cannabis use is not one of them. Medical cannabis is coming so get ready for the great societal detox !!!!

Big cannabis money is coming to Prague

The American and Canadian moneyed men are coming to Prague with 15 million euros to spend. Together with a couple of Czech Universities they are establishing the International Cannabis and Cannaboids Institute (ICCI). It looks like enough money was spent on “consultancy” so the Czech political system has allowed the deal.

They will seek to treat ill people with cannabis and design individualistic treatment plans for specific illnesses. For those of you without 15 million euros to spend, you can still buy a bucket, some soil and grow your own medical cannabis without the fan fare and lime light. Organically grown cannabis is a powerful medicine that helps treat almost all illness. Our old fashioned system, that requires huge investment money and greedy profits for the top is one of the main problems facing our society but at the same time, more cannabis in society will certainly help alleviate human suffering.

We have entered the cannabis era. Science, medicine and business will now replace the underground growers and try to squeeze as much profit as possible. It will be important that we continue to fight for our right to grow our own medicine. We will closely follow the icci in the coming months, and we hope that more information about the medical benefits of cannabis will help end needless human suffering.

The story of Plauen’s cannabis social club

cannabis Germany

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived a young, happy couple. They found each other in Plauen, Germany. This is a small (50,000 population) town in the old communist east of the country. These kinds of areas tend to have higher unemployment and social issues. Alcohol and drug abuse being a serious problem. So our happy couple have set up a cannabis social club in Plauen. The old conservative heart of Germany sees the couple’s club as a terrible example of society’s decay.

However, there is a little more to this story. You see Plauen’s cannabis club founder has a special interest in cannabis. When he was younger (he is 23 now) he had a bad motor bike accident. Unfortunately he damaged 20% of the back part of his brain, and 10% of the front. This meant that he couldn’t move around too much. If he walked somewhere, he would bump into things. As objects move towards him his brain can’t make sense of them and he hits them. His doctors put him on many different pharmaceutical drugs. These were nasty, strong chemicals and they seemed to make him worse. One of the side effects he suffered was throwing up blood all day. Worse than the side effects, he couldn’t think normally. Understanding what had happened was difficult. Luckily for him, he had a very cool, knowledgeable doctor that whispered to him one day, “try cannabis”.

When he has smoked enough cannabis, he can drive, talk and think normally. Cannabis rewires the way his mind operates. The toxic legal drugs were killing him but the illegal, safe, healthy cannabis plant saved him. Imagine being given back the power of thought. What would you do? Well, our Plauen activist here decided that he should tell the world about what happened to him and raise awareness about the healing power of the plant. The Plauen cannabis social club is a perfect example of what cannabis can do. Not only has it helped Stefan medically, but the herb has an interesting way of letting us think in a very creative way. As the local Plauen authorities cut their after school youth program budgets, the cannabis club has been dreaming up ways to fill those gaps. All money raised by this couple goes to youth projects (Check out their website for more information).

None of this information has been filtering into the minds of the local Plauen population. They were told by the television that cannabis is bad so that is that. The Plauen club is harassed and belittled even though our happy couple only have good intentions. Praguepot is helping out but we are still three hours away and there is a bit of a language barrier. At last weekend’s Prague cannafest, we tried to meet as many German activists as possible and ask them for help. The cannabis community is full of all kinds of people, but you can always notice the increased levels of compassion. The cannafest organizers gave the Plauen club a free stand. That act of kindness has helped connect our couple to the wider community. After a fun weekend they are back in Plauen looking for a suitable garden space to grow organic fruit and vegetables.

Without cannabis, the Plauen club founder would be in a very bad situation. When he came to Prague I made sure he had pot. This is a criminal act in the eyes of the law, but with a little common sense you can see that a law that forbids someone from health is an invalid law. Our governments are dead wrong on cannabis and it is time for them to grow up and deal with the fact that they are quite often completely full of shit. In Amsterdam you can buy pot from a coffee shop but the owners of that coffee shop must magically produce their pot because it is illegal for them to buy it anywhere. We have new shiny medical marijuana bills being proposed but they don’t even attempt to utilize the true value of the plant. At this years cannafest, leading cannabis scientist, Cristina Sanchez told a packed audience that cannabis is 100% healthy for humans. The plant has a positive effect on all cancers. With this ringing in your ears, lets get busy working on how to get out of this mess. Our cancer ravished society needs cannabis. We need more people talking about pot and we need more people growing it. If you can help our Plauen friends in any way the karma points are huge and so is the thank you.

We will keep you posted on what happens up in Plauen. With their limited resources they have turned a bad situation into a beautiful song. Cannabis is medicine, it brings health so it is automatically legal to grow and use no matter what the suits say.

Cannafest is coming back to Prague

cannafest Prague

From the 6th to the 8th of November (this weekend) Cannafest is coming to the Czech Republic again. Manufacturers meet investors who meet hippies who meet the public. Cannabis, ladies and gentlemen, is going main stream. On show is the best growing equipment on the planet, presented by some of the legends of our industry. There will be demonstrations of new hemp products and even a hemp massage area! Being a complete cannabis geek however, you will find Praguepot sitting quietly at the back of the professional conferences that are held in the left wing of the exhibition halls. There are many interesting speakers this year. From Israel, Yehuda Baruch is back in Prague to speak about cannabis and driving. Israel has been at the cutting edge of medical cannabis use so Yehudi’s talk should be very informative. From Encod Janko Belin will be speaking about next Aprils UN meeting UNGASS. At this meeting in New York, it is widely believed that cannabis will finally be freed from the criminal prohibition that has been forced on the medicinal plant. But there is one speaker that is above them all. Cristina Sanchez is to cannabis as Neil armstrong is to travel. Along with some other Spanish scientists, it was her work that gave scientific fact to the claims that cannabis kills cancer cells. If you want to catch a glimpse of medical cannabis royalty, then join me at 17:15 on Saturday, as she speaks about cannabis and cancer treatment.

There is the usual smokers area with cool live music and there are even a few interesting after parties. If you are visiting you can email us(praguepot@gmail.com) for a list of venues. The Czech Republic has always been open to cannabis, and as the plant emerges from American prohibition, Prague is a fitting location for this annual cannabis information event. You can find all details of this event on cannafest’s website here.
