Help UK cannabis, speak with your local MP

UK cannabis

After the successful online government petition to legalize the production and use of cannabis, the UK parliament has to now meet and discuss the topic on the 12th of this month. After speaking with  UK activist groups, the message going around is; anyone living in the UK should contact their own local MP and ask them if they will be at the parliament debate. The Tory government would like nothing better than a sparsely attended debate.

It will take you a few minutes but the difference could be life changing. Sick and elderly patients can really benefit from the non toxic plant. Increased sleep and appetite are the bed rock of recovery and unlike toxic pharmaceutical drugs, the only side effect of cannabis is a bliss like euphoria.

Take the time to call or email your MP because the drug war has failed. We tried putting everyone in jail and still cannabis use increased. If we remove the black market, then we can make sure that young people don’t have as ready a supply and we can also improve the quality of pot.

Be the difference, contact one of the organizations below or directly with your local MP. We live in a democracy, it is high time we started using the system instead of being used by the system!!!

What’s next for UK cannabis reform?

UK cannabis

This has been an amazing summer for British cannabis. Northern top cop Ron Hogg burst the prohibitionist bubble by declaring he wouldn’t be chasing small cannabis growers. Many other police chiefs agree with Hogg, and most importantly, they have come out to support him. This is huge. When the cops tell you they don’t mind you growing cannabis, it is time to start growing cannabis. Growing for sick people is something that Teeside cannabis club has been encouraging for years. They have developed a strong community, based on compassion and pot. They help educate the public by organizing festivals and events to promote the positive story of cannabis. A big part of cannabis activism from now on, will be about normalizing the medicinal herb in the minds of the public. You would think it is easy to convince people that cannabis is both safe and healthy after so many scientific research papers have been released, but still the public struggles with the false anti-pot propaganda.

Struggle is something Peter Reynolds, president of Clear UK knows all about. Since joining Clear he has reorganized them into the leading UK cannabis activist group. He is one of the most effective spokesmen for our movement. Praguepot caught up with him today and asked for his views on recent UK developments. Obviously he is delighted with the public comments from the police. A big part of Clear UK’s strategy is opening up and strengthening the dialogue between cannabis users and authorities. Peter explained an effective tactic medical cannabis patients are using. Sick people who can benefit from cannabis are encouraged by Clear to find a doctor that can recommend the herb. Next the patient speaks with their local elected official, and they ask this member of parliament to speak with the minister of health about their situation. This is a very clever tactic. We move the debate from facts and figures towards real human suffering.

The cannabis community needs more dialogue with authorities. Marijuana is a powerful medicine with many other useful functions. Although prohibitionists allude to the negative side effects of the plant, we are still not clear what those side effects are. The media inspired, stereotypical stoner represents a couple of percent of the actual community. The rest is made up of people from every walk of life. Business people to writers, pot consumers are a true cross section of society. In order to move this cannabis debate along, we need effective communication with local authorities and the public. We have had dramatic announcements from the police, it is now up to activists to do the hard, tedious job of following up these new developments with constant dialogue.

Now it is your turn, join your local cannabis social club, join Clear, Encod or Norml. We need more people like Peter Reynolds speaking out for our community. Get in contact with him and Clear to see how you can take part in this beautiful social revolution. As Gandhi once said, be the change you want to see in the world.

More English police say yes to cannabis

England cannabis

This is it folks, that creaking sound you hear is the dam finally breaking on cannabis prohibition in the UK. Three more police forces have publicly stated, that they don’t care about marijuana growers or consumers. Surrey, Derbyshire and Dorset have all called an end to the ridiculous war on cannabis. There are still many details to be discussed, but the message is clearly, oops, we got it way wrong on cannabis. Enjoy the moment, because after the beginning, we really need to talk about a minimum standard of hygiene and safety in the growing of the herb, but that is a problem for another day. Get yourselves ready for a very fun, confusing, historic moment in English and European history!!!

England about to fall to cannabis

europe cannabis England

In politics, sometimes they float an idea before publicly adopting it. Police commissioner Ron Hogg was that ballon. Last week he announced that his force would not be pursuing individuals for growing and using an amazing health supplement(cannabis). How did the public react? They didn’t care. A few of the hysterical conservative types threw a bit of a fit but most had nothing to add or were supportive.

Now the fun really starts. Cannabis is a big part of English society. This has been hidden from view but the changes in the way police deal with this issue means that normal, peaceful human beings can get on with their lives without some uptight official judging them with the force of law. There are organizations and individuals that have been working hard for this moment. Norml, encod and community groups like Teeside cannabis club have taken the fight to the authorities and guess what, they have won! It is now up to the cannabis community to finish off the job. Get involved in cannabis activist groups or go along to events to show your support. The summer of 2015 will go down in English history  as the year that saw an end to the nonsense of police trying stop people healing themselves with a God given herb!

The war on UK pot prohibition has begun

UK cannabis

We have had a very interesting week for cannabis prohibition in the UK. First we had a bombshell. Durham police commissioner Hogg announced that cannabis was no longer a priority for his force. They would not be wasting any more time or tax payers money on small growers or people in possession of cannabis. Usually police commissioners wait until they have left their job of influence to declare, the war on drugs has failed. Commissioner Hogg is one of those rare, high minded officials with a genuine sense of duty to the community. Prohibition clearly doesn’t work and it is rotting society from the youth up. Police and government have been criminally wrong on cannabis. It is an incredible medicine and a potential game changer for the wider society.

After the positive pot headlines it was only a matter of hours before the Conservative hatchet machine went to work. A picture of Durham police commissioner Hogg with some cannabis activists was published by the far right wing Daily Mail newspaper. The headline; police commissioner works with convicted criminal Ziggy Mustafa Spliff. We got to see the Daily Mail misinform and uphold the interests of its wealthy, conservative owners. Big Pharmaceutical business interests are threatened by cannabis, so the daily mail has to attack on their behalf. Ziggy was arrested for possession of cannabis and he did intend to supply the plant to people, but there is one huge piece of information that the paper left out. He was supplying the herb to sick people and using the plant to treat his own medical condition.

Ziggy’s father died of cancer. He went through a 5 year battle with him and during that time, learnt how to produce cannabis oil which helped manage his father’s illness. After the funeral, a grieving son told his friends that he would establish a cannabis club to treat sick people. Today Teeside cannabis club is working hard to give support and information to the local community. The time and effort that they put into making their community a better place is impressive. Providing cannabis to sick people is not an easy task. Besides the police threat, at times you are giving comfort to someone who is in the last moments of life. Sharing this end journey with a stranger, risking jail, harassment and emotional pain is an act of love and compassion. Ziggy’s real name is Michael Fisher. He is 30 years old and is a modern English hero. When the dust settles on prohibition, when the whole of society understand the medical benefit of the plant, we will finally and clearly understand the reasons Ziggy was arrested. He is a care giver and thankfully he is not the only one. Brave activists are fighting against the ignorance of prohibition. The dailymail tried to do a hatchet job on the character of both commissioner Hogg and Michael Fisher, but instead they have merely highlighted a couple of our proud movement’s greatest sons.

To continue the momentum we are ending this week with news that an online petition seeking a parliament debate on cannabis has reached its target number of signatories. Over 100,000 people signed the petition in a matter of days. We must understand that our collective power is expressed when we organize and take action. Our planet and species cannot survive if we continue down the path of  greedy capitalism, we must find a new balance. Support your local cannabis clubs, get involved in local activism and stand up for people like Ziggy and Ron Hogg.

England is legalizing cannabis

cannabis news England

As the great Bill Shakespeare would say, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Yesterday came the announcement that police wouldn’t enforce the prohibition of cannabis in the north of England any more. So when the police say you can grow and possess small amounts of the plant, guess what, that means it is legal. This is the bear minimum our tax funded officials could do. Thanks to the internet, the public are a different animal than they were even ten years ago. We have access to the same information as the police and authorities. Reefer madness propaganda has been disproven time and again and the public are now wondering what our elected officials are up to? Have they forgotten that they work for the public? Have they forgotten that the money we pay in taxes should be spent as wisely as possible. Colorado has had no negative effects after legalizing cannabis. The crime rate is down and public satisfaction is up. Our taxes are being wasted by the system. Prohibition has never worked and more importantly, cannabis is healthy for you. There is now a need for the cannabis community to come together. The system has enjoyed crushing individuals that call for legalization but as the police are no longer enforcing the caveman laws on prohibition, it is time for the 40 million European cannabis consumers to stand up and call time on the wasteful war on cannabis. We don’t have the money to pay for America’s prohibition and society can’t afford to hand cannabis revenue to hardened criminals. Set up you own cannabis social club, register it with Encod.org and lets put an end to the foolish question of cannabis legalization.

Northern English police are cool with cannabis

UK cannabis

If you are a pot smoker in the northern English counties of Durham and Darlington then get ready. Crime commissioner Ron Hogg has announced a new deal with cannabis users. Police are no longer searching for small scale grow operations or possessions. Unless there is a complaint or growers are being too stupid for their own good, then the cops will leave them alone.

Isn’t that nice? Look how benevolent our overlords are being. They are now allowing us to do something we were determined to do anyway. This is classic politics. We have leaders that are pretending to lead society. All of a sudden they are now in favor of cannabis. Yesterday the plant was evil, tomorrow it will be taxed. The people in power are busy looking like they are in control. In reality, they don’t know what is happening. They are used to seeing cannabis consumers as dirty little hippies. Science now proves that hippies were making a healthy choice with cannabis. Police and their gin soaked christmas party mayhem are the real offense to society. You don’t have gangs of pot users roaming the streets looking to fight any other animals they encounter.

As is always the case, our Northern English crime fighters are only going half way with their new liberal attitude to the completely safe and healthy plant. If they catch you with some pot, you can enroll in a program to make you realize the errors of your lifestyle choice. Yes, instead of jail, you get to listen to an over weight, middle aged moron tell you how you have made bad life choices. Alcohol is a danger to society, cannabis is not. Not only can cannabis cure some cancers and other serious illnesses but it is a perfectly healthy alternative to alcohol. Eventually, even those slow minded folks in the police will have to admit that cannabis is a positive addition to society. Until then we must leave them with the illusion that their “crime fighting” work against non violent, peaceful cannabis consumers is serving the public.
