UN OKs medical cannabis

The UN has been talking about drugs at their ungass meeting in New York this week. The previous meeting talked about a drug free world. This time however, after the full devastation of the war on drugs has been felt, the UN body has changed. The focus is moving from punishment to a health care approach. There are now more drugs, more readily available than ever before. Simply jailing drug users is not helping. A drug addict is the consequences of a bad environment, bad choices and an availability of drugs. To change this situation, you can’t just focus on one part of the problem. We need a tilt away from our crooked friend, Richard Nixon’s policies of racism and move in a more responsible, compassionate direction.

For cannabis, there has been an interesting positive result. Medical cannabis has been recognized by the majority of participants. This means more acceptance of the plant being used as an alternative to current pharmaceutical options. The language is still unclear, but medical cannabis is moving forward. When we understand that all cannabis use is medicinally beneficial, it finally opens the door for cannabis.

It is now up to the general public. If we organize into cannabis clubs and show that we are both engaged and trustworthy, the plant will be adopted much quicker. Join or create a cannabis club. Get serious about becoming a professional medical cannabis grower but most of all, get active. The grey area surrounding cannabis has just increased in size. It is up to us to fill it with medical cannabis community cooperation.

What does the upcoming UK parliament cannabis debate mean?

UK cannabis

After a successfully organized and run online petition to legalize the production, sale and use of cannabis, the UK parliament must now debate the subject. British cannabis activists should be very proud of their efforts. Over 200,000 signatures were collected.  For establishment politicians this is a nightmare. They are under huge pressure from pharmaceutical lobbyist money to kill any cannabis debate. A chronic pain sufferer has to take a handful of toxic medication every day. Cannabis can replace all these pills and allow the patient to lead a normal, healthy life. The way our political systems have developed, politicians and business are far to close to each other. This relationship causes things like pollution and prohibition, but when people  stand together, our prostitute politicians will do as they are told.

On Monday, 12th of October we will witness a piece of political theatre. We will see a parliament debate on cannabis attended by only a few MPs and little media coverage. The establishment does nice business with pharmaceutical companies. Big pharma has evolved from a life giving industry into just another ATM for giant corporations. Selfish politicians want to give the impression that this is not an important issue. They are thinking of campaign contributions instead of looking at the science on cannabis. It is clear that cannabis is one of the most amazing natural medicines known to man.

Here is a list of 700 scientific studies that show the medical benefits of the plant.

Politicians have tried imprisoning, then laughing at this issue. That hasn’t worked so they will give ignoring the public’s demands a try.  What they don’t realize is, we will never stop pushing for medical cannabis. The establishment has portrayed cannabis users as hippie stoners but the truth is very different. Cannabis is a creative fuel as well as the best, non toxic medicine we have found. We are not lazy, we are committed. Why should we live in a world were only billionaire companies get to control medicine. Look at your history books, every greedy concentration of power and money has ended in people getting needlessly hurt and killed. Opioid pain medication kills thousands of people each year in the UK. Of all the drug overdose deaths, 82% is from prescription drugs. We do have a drug problem in Europe, but it is the legal drug dealers that are causing the most harm. Alarmingly, new statistics tell us that one in every two people will get cancer in the UK. Cannabis is a known anti cancer tumor substance. Each time you use cannabis you are lowering the risk of getting cancer. Imagine the mind that believes they have the right to prohibit you from protecting yourself against cancer!

We are firmly on the road to cannabis legalization. This is important to people who suffer in silence. UK activists are dedicating their time and energy so now lets all stand up. Together, we can change this war torn, polluted world. Below are a list of fantastic UK organizations. They are filled with friendly, dedicated activists, and they need your help.

Ireland will decriminalize cannabis

Ireland cannabis

Another European country is about to begin the journey to cannabis legalization. Aodharn O Riordain, Minister for the National Drugs Strategy has been a breath of fresh air since he arrived in the job. He has been up front and honest with the public over drugs. On Wednesday there was a think tank with local and regional actors within the drug and alcohol field. The general consensus was that decriminalization is a good thing for society. There is no justification for jailing people for growing or using cannabis. It is a strong medicine and most importantly for Ireland, it is a safe, healthy alternative to alcohol. We all know the Irish cliche. As important as reducing alcohol consumption in Ireland, cannabis has another important benefit. Irish people are genetically more susceptible to getting diabetes. In all the research to date, it is understood that pot plays a vital role in preventing and treating diabetes!

In one stroke of a pen, alcohol consumption goes down and health spikes up. Add in an end to the drug turf wars that has endangered society and we have to ask, why haven’t you done this sooner?? There is still a lot of work to be done. This is the first time an Irish minister has openly called for decriminalization, there will be many more meetings and discussions but Ireland is now part of a European pattern. Portugal, Holland and then Italy, Poland, Germany, England and now Ireland have all had their highest officials calling for an end of the drug war.

Irish people looking to get involved should look to join their local Norml group or Encod.org. It is time to be brave, establish cannabis social clubs in your area and begin the conversation with your local police station. Cannabis users are equal members of society and we expect our collective wishes to be understood and respected.

Freedom to choose cannabis

Our modern societies have governments drunk on power. Innocently enough they sought to protect the public from crime and then terrorism but has ended up trying to protect us from ourselves. An over protective government is in theory a noble state, add in the warped, corrupting influence of big business, and you get the mess we are in today. Cannabis is, without doubt one of the healthiest substances modern man interacts with. From its anti inflammatory properties, to the calming of damaged nerves, marijuana is a powerful medicine. We are expected to work ten hours a day, maintain an image of success and pick our over stimulated route through the urban jungle of modernity. Promotions, deadlines, office politics. No time to catch your breath or ask, does this life fulfil me?

Powerfully manipulative advertisements are placed at the center of our worlds, whispering that they have the answer to happiness. Buy this jumper, consume that drink, consume consume consume before that big dark hole in your soul swallows you up! Modern society is choking our human potential. Yes we have had huge technical advancements but also devastating poverty. Society has lost balance because only wealth has a voice or a choice.

So what has any of this nonsense got to do with cannabis I hear you ask. Well the two competing forces in society, that of the controlling government and its profit seeking corporate masters have created a legal landscape where alcohol and prescription drugs kill vast numbers of people but remains legal and cannabis, which has scientifically been proven to kill cancer cells and repair our health is illegal. Huge business interests in the pharmaceutical, alcohol and law enforcement industries stand to lose obscene profits as soon as the prohibition of cannabis is lifted. Lost profits rather than the benefit or harm to society is the deciding factor for marijuana’s legal status.

Slowly (too slowly) the science is getting out on pot’s medical benefits. Stress is one of the great silent killers of our society. There is no medication to rival the anti stress properties of marijuana. In spite of the criminal status of the plant a large minority of the population has consumed the plant at some point in their lives. In time, cannabis will be known as one of the greatest natural medicines known to civilization, but for today, you are a criminal in need of incarceration. The freedom our forefathers fought for has been stolen. Grey bureaucrats and vicious business interests have replaced our freedom with self-serving regulations. I didn’t give permission for a government to choose my lifestyle. I don’t accept that government knows more than this new internet generation. We now have the same level of information and guess what? Cannabis cures cancer. They knew this back in the mid 70s but decided not to share this information with civilization as it wasn’t politically advantageous. Government is criminally wrong on cannabis.

Colorado has had a year of legal cannabis, and the only changes seen in society have been positive. Accidental prescription drug overdose deaths are down by a quarter, in the longer term, as cannabis replaces alcohol we will most likely see less liver damage and tension related illnesses. In two American states and Uruguay the citizens are free to use cannabis if they choose. That leaves the rest of the planet, tens of millions of people to remain engaged in criminal behavior, as the law would see it. Cannabis users are making the healthy choice when they decide to consume cannabis over alcohol. The mind expanding plant doesn’t lead to lawlessness and degradation, it leads to a higher state of consciousness and a feeling of connection to both ourselves and Mother Nature. The consumerist ethos of modern society has outlawed this relationship with nature. Until we have our cannabis rights returned to us, the system itself is the problem. Just like we look back at past generations and marvel at their ignorance, future generations will be scratching their heads at pot prohibition, especially after it was known that it cured cancer.
