Bong humpers

bong humper

Pot has only recently stepped out of the US propaganda shadows. Once the villain, now the darling of a new wave of self-expression. We had the hippies, now we must forge the new legal pot tokesters. Miss high times 2010 Brittany Wagoner coined the term bong humpers to describe a certain type of popular pot selfie. In these sexy photos, hot girls are mostly semi dressed and hitting a bong. If it is true that sex sells, then we will all be waking and baking as long as these girls have access to cameras!

I just hope the bong humpers are communicating a positive message for our movement. We want to legalize and normalize pot, so giving the holier than thou brigade an easy propaganda coup will set us all back. I can imagine the sweaty old beady eyed preacher, licking his liver lips as he previews each sinful photo of a girl having fun with some herb, and after enjoying the image, feeling guilty and trying to have them banned, if only to save the young woman’s soul. Never mind that it has been religious groups and people carrying out some of the most heinous crimes known to our societies, they will still condemn marijuana.  Once a religious hypocrite finds a new cause, they rattle their cages until empty-headed followers get whipped up into a frenzy.

Religion will oppose pot from a moral point of view. It is apparently sinful to seek enjoyment. Sinful to take a herb from the ground and put it to good use. The truth that religious people have written in their bible does not speak about pot. God, the all knowing Christian deity decided to keep cannabis a secret until the Mexicans started smoking it in America in the early part of the last century. Jesus liked to get a wine buzz, the modern day Christian preachers like to get a moral buzz from condemning people for not being as boring as they are. If you don’t wear a starched shirt and apologize after sex then you my friend, are the devil.

The sinfully sexy bong girls are celebrating cannabis. I would be very interested to know what you think of this new pot phenomenon. Are the girls just having fun or is there a sexist stereotype forming?

Europe and cannabis

europe cannabis

We have all seen the dramatic events unfold in America. Nixon and then Reagan led a holy crusade against marijuana. Then came Clinton, Bush and Obama all admitting to have smoked cannabis. Today we see widespread medical marijuana use and the beginning of legal recreational pot. That is great for our American brothers, but what about Europe?

Europe cannabis

Of the roughly 500 million European Union citizens, just under 22% of adults have admitted smoking pot at some point in their lives. I would think that is a very conservative number but we will probably always be guessing at the number as long as it is illegal. The European Union is a collection of countries with different attitudes to pot. Famously in the Netherlands, pot is openly sold in coffee shops. They have not witnessed the end of the world. Their younger generations are less likely to smoke pot and crime levels have fallen. Spain have allowed cannabis collectives for the moment. Last month around a third of the Barcelona cannabis clubs were shut down however, so who knows what their policy actually is. Portugal treats cannabis from a social and medical point of view and dear old Czech Republic seems to turn a blind eye to what is very clearly a much loved herb. The UK with its stricter police delight in using tax payer money to disrupt the pot growers.

Europe cannabis

Over the last ten years cannabis in the European Union has gone from mostly Moroccan and Afghan hash to home grown pot. Like in America smaller growers are supplying to themselves, friends and a small group of others. The cost is split within the communities.

I have been reading through European Union reports on cannabis use in Europe. What is becoming very clear, is that cannabis is supporting the police over here as much as it does in America. Of the roughly one million police drug seizures in Europe, 80% are cannabis related. Let that number sink in a minute. 80%. The least harmful drug, way below tobacco and alcohol in terms of damage to your health and yet it is propping up almost the entire drug enforcement industry. America under other presidents were quite forceful in their opposition to pot so Europe is still waiting to be “guided” by the new American direction.

The European Union reports on cannabis, point to a dangerous increase in cannabis users seeking treatment for addiction. This is a very serious negative point against Cannabis. Well it is until you understand that most of the people seeking treatment in addiction clinics have been ordered to attend those centers by courts after a small amount of pot was discovered in their possession. The level of confusion on marijuana is breathtaking. The true figure of cannabis addiction is unknown. When Hartmut in Germany gets caught with pot and is given the choice between jail or an addiction course, which one do you think he will chose. He wants to be at liberty to watch Bayern Munich Football club beat the hell out of Manchester City in the champions league. He keeps his freedom, and the system collects his statistic. Round and round the wheel of bullshit goes.

Europe cannabis

Another neat little trick the European reports used to distort the facts was mixing cannabis in with its more dangerous synthetic form. As there would be little or no health damage associated with pot, they added the synthetic form, which you can buy in head shops online or in shady shops to add a little drama to the reporting. Once you add in synthetic cannabis you can talk about toxic levels which simply do not occur in the natural form. Any cases involving hospitalization was also the result of alcohol or other drugs being combined with pot. If the authorities had any real negative public health link, they would be raving about it.

Europe cannabis

So what does all this mean? The police and their budget need to keep marijuana in the same category as dangerous drugs. If you make marijuana legal then 80% of their work disappears. No more over time, no more conferences, no more expensive cross boarder raids with cool new police toys. No more business as usual. In a twist, the only ones who have more to lose than the cops from marijuana’s legalization are the big time drug dealers.

The other important thing to take away from all the European  reports is the fact that young people are smoking a lot more pot than older people. About 28% of adult Czechs have smoked or are smoking pot, but 41% of 16 year old kids have smoked it. The kids know the adults are full of shit on this matter and they are all smoking. It doesn’t take a genius to work out if the kids can see how ridiculous the pot laws are, why would they believe us on anything else. We have proven how full of it we are. What kind of society that brings is anybodies guess.

Cashing in on cannabis

America is legalizing marijuana. In a previous life, America was the towering preacher man darkly warning the world about the evils of pot. Today American company’s are cashing in on cannabis. Investment funds and companies know there is huge money to be made in the cannabis industry and the most money is going into brand building. Big business wants to open up the McDonalds of pot farms, dispensaries and one day coffee shops.

Cannabis

I hope that pot doesn’t get infected by the corporate virus. The beauty of marijuana is it creates communities. Growers to tokers. Strangers to brothers. We don’t need this industry to be efficient. We are not on a race to maximize profits. Keep the growing of pot to small scale cottage industry size and we retain the authentic nature of pot. Mass produce and slickly advertise it and it becomes just another stimulant.

Cannabis

Big business gets to be big by squashing out the competition. That is common practice on Wall Street but it is not something that is healthy for society. I love the idea of growing communities. Mutually deciding on what strains to grow and then sharing. We don’t need another Monsanto, one and its destructive ways is enough. We need more people being in touch with the earth. Actually growing with their own hands rather than sitting behind a computer screen and waiting for retirement. We have sought to be too clever. We have removed ourselves too much from nature. If we are lazy and don’t make the effort to grow pot then business will step in and do it for us. We will still wear the hippie t-shirts and talk about their ideals but we will have lost something in the automation of the grow. The communal spirit of pot is as important as the THC content. So support your growers, support your community, say yes to a friendlier society. It is up to us to be the change.

Cannabis, cancer and big pharma

Cannabis cancer

Scientific research carried out by the American government in 1974 showed the powerful cancer fighting ability of THC and other compounds within the plant. They have known since then that cannabis combats tumor growth and in some cases kills the cancerous cells altogether. There is a reason we instinctively don’t trust our governments, and this is the reason. Big pharmaceutical companies, who know they couldn’t get the complete patent for cannabis, bought and paid for the silence of politicians. We know that politicians have first and foremost, their own interests at heart, so if big business will give them election money and then a million dollar salary when they are voted out(usually over some scandal, like voting against the people’s wishes or interests) whose side do you think they are on? Not my mother in laws side, who has cancer. Not on the millions of people who have died from cancer or are currently suffering through chemotherapy.

Cannabis cancer

Imagine if we had not just started working on cannabis research now, but began it in 1975. We would be a cancer free society. Great for us, terrible for the cancer industry. The cancer industry gets billions for cancer research, and as a friend who works in the industry says, there is a lot of research into stopping the growth of cancer, but very little into the curing of cancer. I hope you are mad as you read this because you should be. This is clear cut, profits before curing cancer.

Now let’s think outside the box a little. Who benefits from cannabis being illegal. First in the ghoulish queue is big pharmaceutical companies that make money from cancer and toxic pain drugs. They are ground zero. They paid their lobbyists who paid the politicians who told the people to go rot. Remember, cannabis is non toxic to humans. We can’t die from it, and with each passing day we are finding new research along with the old suppressed stuff that tells us it is a miracle plant.

Cannabis cancer

After big pharmaceutical companies the alcohol industry benefit as they don’t have to deal with a serious threat to their profits. If I have the choice between drinking alcohol or smoking cannabis, I know which is healthier and more fun for my body. Cannabis wins and when it is legalized, it will shrink the alcohol industry the same way it shrinks cancer tumors. Next comes the policing industry. Locking up nonviolent people wasn’t enough. They developed, for profit prisons. Modern day slavery in the name of law and order. Anyone who ever smoked a joint had to deal with the threat of imprisonment.

cannabis cancer

So what can we do about all this? Well the first weapon is knowledge. Read up on the research and then get busy spreading the word. Cannabis is this generations ticket to a longer, happier, healthier life. We owe it to the next generations to stop the political rot now. The world will be better off with full cannabis legalization. Big pharma will suffer and they will fight with misinformation and legal means. The alcohol and policing industries likewise will fight us. Police who enforce the ban on cannabis are affecting the health of their own kids and grand kids. We are fighting for all humans to benefit, the other side are fighting for only their benefit at the expense of everyone else. We are bigger than big business and more compassionate than greedy political self-interest. We are the people, and we are now connected. It is time to get moving.
